Text By Dai Zhiyong - 戴志勇

Dai Zhiyong is editor of the Nanfang Zhoumo, a reference newspaper for liberal circles. His commentaries mostly circle around the theme of ‘reform’. In some articles, he focuses on bad administration, denouncing corruption and undue appropriation. He came to the limelight in early 2013 by signing an editorial which met with censorship from the regional administration of Guangdong. This editorial invokes a ‘Chinese dream’ in idealistic tones, calling for a constitutional government dedicated to social justice, individual rights, and the value of liberty. This article gave rise to a campaign in favour of freedom of expression in China.
